Home on the Ranch
Smoky Buttes Ranch is named after the range of hills on which it sets. This area is said to be the northern most point to which Coronado traveled in search of the Seven Cities of Gold and was named either after the mist that appears in the valley or for the smoke from the campfires of the Indian tribes that made their winter camps here.
Today the ranch is home to Matt and Brenda Hemmer. It is dedicated to restoring rare breeds of sheep and chickens, along with the production of quality produce. Our breeds include Soay Sheep; Faverolles, Welsummer and Erminette Chickens; all ably protected by Great Pyrenees Dogs. Please take a look at our home. We think it's pretty special and hope you will too. Don't hesitate to contact us for additional information.
